Heart On My Sleeve {poem}

Sep 03, 2020

With my heart on my sleeve

And a tear in my eye,

I cross the finish line

And just start to cry.

I overflow with emotion—

Joy, sadness, and grief—

But most potent of all,

I am filled with relief.

For my doubt has been shattered,

And my fear’s been dissolved

By persistence and courage

In spite of the falls.

My faith has been tested

And tattered and torn.

And amidst the struggles

Inspiration’s been born.

My heart was ripped open—

Exposed, spilled, and raw—

And at times it was painful

To rehash through it all.

And if no one even reads it

That would be just fine.

‘Cause I had more layers to heal

I didn’t see at the time.

So I wrote My Cosmic Hammer

As a divine reminder

To follow my inner compass

And—to myself—be kinder.
