Shackled {poem}
Oct 07, 2018I am shackled by my judgments;
My beliefs that are running show;
My opinions that I think are truths
Are disabling me to grow.
I am chained down by my beliefs
Of who I think I’ve always been.
Not realizing that I have a choice
To break mind shackles for the win.
Rather I’m constantly upholding
What I ‘should’ or ‘shouldn’t’ do.
Instead of following my inner compass
To reinvent myself brand new.
I am restrained even more so
By who I believe I’m not.
Self-reminded of what I can’t do
Based on all the beliefs I’ve bought.
Everyday I clip my wings
To nicely fit into the mold
Of who I think I need to be
And it’s getting kind of old.
Some of these beliefs are obvious
Others are hidden in the depths.
They can only come to the surface
By embarking on a self-exploratory quest.
I can feel it’s time to break out
Of the shackles that have compiled…
By waking up to self-examine
Beliefs that have been filed.
You’re standing at a crossroads
With a chance to make a choice.
To unravel all that is not you
By listening to your inner voice.
It’s time to unlock the shackles
That have been keeping you all confined.
By making the decision to unravel
Anything that is no longer aligned.
