You Are An Onion {poem}

Jun 13, 2017

You are an Onion.

You are made up of layers.

Built up over time--

Your own personal purveyor

Of beliefs and experiences,

Memories and Masks,

Fears,

Absolute truths.

Roles, and self-imposed tasks.

This baggage we carry

Gets compounded and added;

Daily, monthly, yearly

And our onion gets padded.

It is an unavoidable process-- A natural evolution.

But it can be unraveled

For soul resolution.

“How do I get rid of this baggage?”

You ask. “How do I take off

All of these unwanted masks?”

You have to wake up

You have to be willing to look,

To unravel, dig up,

Investigate and unhook.

The happenings all around you,

Take a look in the mirror.

Be willing to self-examine

Let go of attachment and fear.

You are a beautiful being

On a magical ride.

On the quest of a lifetime

To unravel and unwind.

To scratch off the build up

Remove the scale and lime.

That hides your shining light

Under the gunk and the grime.

Your Inner light will be uncovered

As you work to unbind

The filters that cloud your senses

And impact your mind.

The more work you do,

The more committed you are

In your quest to discover

Who you truly are,

You’ll peel off the layers

Letting go of all you are not.

You can unlearn and release

Eons of beliefs that you bought.

Be persistent and determined

As you keep chipping away

Removing chunk by chunk,

Fewer layers will get in your way.

You will blow through barriers;

Remove self-imposed limitation;

Prove that you can defy boundaries;

And achieve belief emancipation.

You’ll get closer to your truth

To the core of your authentic being

Because living with eyes wide open

Is mind-blowingly freeing.
